My name is Ewan Hastie and I am a double bassist, composer, bass guitarist and have recently won BBC Young Jazz Musician 2022. After graduating from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, I also received the Mark McKergow Prize for Jazz Improvisation twice in 2022 and again in 2023. Some very memorable musicians that I have had the pleasure to work with are Tommy Smith, Iain Ballamy, Ryan Quigley, Fergus McCreadie, Pete Johnstone, Niki Yeoh, Huw Warren, Alyn Cosker, Tom Gordon, Mark Mondesir only to name a few. I have also had the opportunity to tour throughout the UK and across Europe with various different musicians and bands. Im originally from Kirkcadly (Fife), but was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. I’ve been based in Glasgow now for 4 years.

This will be my first time attending the Islay Jazz festival this year and I am very much looking forward to meeting and playing with new musicians from all over, as well as exploring the beautiful island and seeing all its historical sites. Ohhh and the famous Islay whiskey ….
