Paul Harrison

Paul Harrison

I am Paul Harrison, jazz pianist, composer, keyboardist. Besides my diverse jazz career, I play with Blue Rose Code, Hue and Cry, have a long standing association with Tommy Smith and the SNJO. Other Scottish musicians I’ve lucky to have worked with closely - Graeme Stephen, Phil Bancroft, Martin Kershaw, Tom Bancroft… and others, sorry I can’t mention you all! My most recent project is with US trumpeter Jon Green performing live improvised electronic music alongside film - “The Crazy Ray”.

I’m looking forward to returning to Islay Jazz Festival and seeing places and faces I haven’t seen since I was last there - audiences are very loyal and you get to know many people from all over the world, there’s a great communal feel to it all. Also I just love travelling to the different locations on the island - it’s a great soul-nourishing place. The music is always memorable, but then there are always other surprises too - minor mishaps with travel, encounters with wildlife and then the year when a certain legendary British actor was in the audience at my gig.

Above all, I’m really excited to that this year I’ll be there to do the very first gig with a new band - one led by an inspiring musician who I’ve known for many years but only getting finally to play with now.
