Conor Murray
I'm Conor Murray and I’m a double bassist originally from Ireland. I have had many wonderful musical experiences since beginning my journey as a jazz musician. These have included playing with wonderful musicians like Tony Kofi, Jean Toussaint, Phil Robson and Christine Tobin as well as many others. Spending time in different places and meeting a wide variety of people have always been a source of inspiration.
I’m excited to be playing at the Islay Jazz Festival for the very first time with Atlantic Road Trip, a wonderful collaborative project led by Paul Towndrow, Chad McCullough and Miro Herak.
My ethos towards playing and perform is informed by listening and supporting what’s going on around me. Input to the music in a meaningful way with a sense of the whole rather then focusing on the individual self is what I believe makes great art. In order to do that I am always striving to further my understanding of music. Developing my choice of notes in the role of the bass, my knowledge of rhythm and my sound are just some of the things I work on consistently. As a student of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, I have a strong connection to Glasgow and Scotland.
I’m looking forward to being at Islay Jazz Festival, making music and meeting old friends again.
