Miro Herak
I am a jazz vibraphone player originally from former Czechoslovakia, and I have been based in The Hague, The Netherlands, for the past 24 years. I am actively playing and composing for multiple international and Dutch-based groups, and for the past 10 years, I have also been teaching at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague.
My musical upbringing includes studying the cello for five years in my early childhood, continuing with classical percussion studies at the Conservatory of Zilina and Bratislava (Slovakia), being a member of the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra (Bratislava) for five years, and studying jazz vibraphone at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague.
My past activities include co-leading the AsGuests project, The Hague Ethospheric Orchestra, the international quartet KuVenda, and Paul Towndrow’s multi-genre big band. Currently, I am mainly active with Atlantic Road Trip and the Herak/Bulatkin Quartet.
I have had the opportunity to tour globally, play at beautiful venues and festivals, and meet inspiring people everywhere. I am very much looking forward to playing at the Islay Festival, meeting new artists, and being inspired by the wonderful place and all the people who care for and appreciate music.
