Tenement Jazz Band
Allow Edinburgh’s Tenement Jazz Band to transport you to the all-swinging all-dancing world of 1920s vintage jazz. With an authentic line up of trombone, trumpet, clarinet, sousaphone, banjo and piano, this sizzling, striding 6-piece aims to capture the energy, excitement and fun of early jazz recordings.
Their show 'The Red Hot Roots of Jazz' has become a regular sell-out event at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, delivering a wonderful slice of nostalgia and joy. Forget any present day worries and enter the Tenement Jazz Band’s world of swinging celebration!
Richard Michael - Solo Organ
Richard is one of Scotland’s most versatile musicians, who has influenced a generation of teachers and students with his innovative methods of teaching improvisation. As a pianist and organist Richard has developed recitals on The Art of Improvisation, in which he improvises in any key, in any style at the merest hint of a theme!
Richard joins us for a solo set on the church organ within the Great Western Community Centre, ahead of performing his ‘Doric Suite’ with the Aberdeen Jazz Festival Orchestra later that evening.
Lino Rocha - percussion and vocals
Elias Zeballos - congas and vocals
Simon Gall - Keys and vocals
Bob Thomson - bass
Bring your instrument (or voice) and join musicians from some of Scotland's top salsa and son bands such as Salsa Celtica, Son al Son, and Latina Turners for an afternoon of improvised Latin music. Bring your chord charts, request to play well-known songs, or simply join the house band, in true descarga style, to improvise on a big groove. Dancers are not only most welcome but are actively encouraged to come along. Please register your interest in playing in advance with email@example.com.
Local 21-year old jazz singer Alastair Eddie joins us to share a solo set of favourite jazz standards and showtunes.

Jazz Vinyl Cafe
Lose yourself in the gentle lighting and hushed ambience of our dedicated listening room. Inspired by the Japanese concept of ‘Jazz Kissa’ cafes, where jazz fans enjoy dedicated listening rather than just background music, the listening room will feature a collection of vinyl records donated in memory of the late Aberdeen trumpet player Swannie McKenzie. A selection of vinyl from festival artists will also be available to play and buy, and you are also invited to bring your own vinyl to enjoy and share with others.
