Günter Baby Sommer and Raymond MacDonald
A joyous and celebratory exploration of new sonic landscapes by Günter BabySommer and Raymond MacDonald, two artists at the top of their game.
Günter Baby Sommer (drums, percussion), born in Dresden, is one of the pioneers of European Free Jazz. In a prolific career spanning over 60 years, he has developed a unique approach to percussion - at times theatrical, always interesting, and peppered with searing dynamic and contrast. He is joined by former Sunday Herald Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year, Raymond MacDonald, a saxophonist, composer and academic whose work explores the boundaries and ambiguities between what is conventionally seen as improvisation and composition. Raymond is a founding member of the Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra and is a Professor of Music Psychology and Improvisation at the University of Edinburgh.
Günter is supported to perform at the Dundee Jazz Festival by the Goethe-Institut.
