Helena Kay and Miro Herak

Nestled in a hollow on the south coast of Islay, with all the drama and tempestuousness of the changing seasons at its doorstep, the cosy living room feel in the Laphroaig distillery will host a unique and intimate vibraphone and saxophone duet by acclaimed musicians Miro Herak and Helena Kay.

Miro Herak (vibraphone) followed his classical percussion studies at the Conservatory of Zilina and Bratislava, becoming a member of the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra while studying jazz vibraphone at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague where he has been living, teaching and performing since.

Helena Kay, as one of Scotland's brightest young saxophonists, who likely needs no introduction to Islay audiences. A string of successes include their latest album, Golden Sands (2022), being released on Kay’s own label, Sulis Records, to wide acclaim, and debut album Moon Palace (Ubuntu 2018) which was released after they won the Peter Whittingham Jazz Award in 2017.

‘A formidable saxophonist and composer… Quite simply, outstanding!’ Nick Lea, Jazz Views
