Paul Towndrow Trio
Alto saxophonist Paul Towndrow is one of the country’s leading jazz musicians. Famously described in The Guardian as “a turbo-charged amalgam of all your favourite saxophone players”, Paul’s playing is passionate, sparky, and a mixture of authority and adventure. His trio with Pete Johnstone on organ and Tom Bancroft on drums grooves hard and swings fast, drawing on deep roots in classic modern jazz. In a typical set, the trio move between beautifully interpreted tunes by the likes of Wayne Shorter, Thelonious Monk, and Miles Davis, and exciting new tunes packed with melodic intrigue and harmonic surprise. Johnstone’s malleable keyboard style and vast expressive palate is the perfect complement to Cosker’s rhythmic virtuosity and drive and Towndrow’s adventurous sax playing..
Grooving modern jazz from three of the most exciting musicians on the scene.
