Colin Steele
I am Colin Steele, this is my first time playing at the Islay jazz festival for a few years and I'm really happy to be returning! Some of the best gigs I’ve ever played have been in Islay, there is something about the journey there, the scenery, the weather and of course the whisky that can add up to something quite magical. I have been really inspired by Islay and have written some of my best tunes there there, both for my quintet and a whole’ Islay Suite’ for my 10 piece band Stramash. I can’t wait to get back there!
After selling out all our previous gigs in the Edinburgh and Glasgow Jazz festivals, I'm delighted to be bringing my quartet with Dave Milligan, Calum Gourley and Alyn Cosker to this years festival. We'll be playing music from our recently released recording of the music of the Blue Nile:
"I'd be surprised if a better British Jazz album is released this year" (Jazzwize)
"This is the best kind of tribute album adding depth and beauty to music that is already steeped in both" Mojo ***** The Scotsman
Dave Milligan and I will also be playing a duo gig in the Bruichladdich hall. We’re looking forward to having lots of fun playing some of our favourite jazz standards and anything else that takes our fancy!
