Polish Scottish Mini Festival 2026 & Aberdeen Jazz Festival: Paulina Przybysz and Estuary Trio
A Fusion of Culture: Polish-Scottish Mini Festival & Aberdeen Jazz Festival. Two Festivals, One Unforgettable Experience. The Polish-Scottish Mini Festival and the Aberdeen Jazz Festival are delighted to invite you to a unique celebration of jazz music with Paulina Przybysz and Estuary Trio.
PAULINA PRZYBYSZ – Insides
“On ‘Insides’, the artist sings primarily with a full voice. Probably the most complete so far.” Piotr Metz
The singer, songwriter and composer, after more than 20 years of presence on the stage, decided to record an album containing jazz standards, which inspired and shaped her as an artist from the early years of her life. The album “Insides” was released on March 1 by the artist’s label – calm courage.
“We have always suspected it. We sensed it in various details and in different genres of music sung by Paulina Przybysz. From Sistars through Pinnawela to Rita Pax and, above all, various concert improvisations and departures. We waited, more or less patiently, for an album like ‘Insides'” – writes Piotr Metz in the liner note
“Finally there has come a moment in my life where I stop saying, ‘One day I’m going to make a jazz album – one with standards that I’ve been humming all my life.’ It just had to happen.” – writes Paulina Przybysz
Przybysz invited the leading musicians of the new generation of Polish jazz, who are part of the revolution that has been taking place for over a decade on improvised music scenes around the world, to collaborate on “Insides”. Marek Pędziwiatr on piano and synthesizers, Tymon Kosma on vibraphone, Wiktoria Jakubowska on drums, Olaf Węgier on tenor saxophone and Krzysztof Baranowski on double bass.
“I’ve had some stage or studio experience with each of the musicians, but despite that, I called them with a beating heart and fear that they would accept my invitation to the project, because my respect for their sensitivity and craftsmanship is huge. I am extremely grateful that we got on this ship together,” says Paulina
The common denominator for the entire material and the invited musicians is undoubtedly the fusion of passion for hip-hop and respect for the classics of mainstream jazz. On the other hand, Przybysz has never perceived music in terms of genre on her artistic path, she has always approached it intuitively and impressively, and whether this is in line with the broadly understood stylistic savoir vivre has always been a secondary issue. And just as Paulina Przybysz’s work has never been fully classified and assigned to a genre drawer, in the case of the album “Insides” let its title be a guide for listeners, and let the word jazz, which has been adapting more and more forms and musical currents in recent years, be a symbol of what was the starting point for the artist to record the album.
ESTUARY TRIO
The newly formed Estuary Trio is an ensemble made up of some of the finest contemporary musicians in Scotland. Comprised of Aberdonians Matthew Kilner (saxophone) and Graeme Stephen (electric guitar) plus Lebanese bass player Elie Afif (double bass) the band explores collective improvisation over jazz and folk themes.
